land art edge of fire
"Edge of fire" en 8 m. long and 2 m. high Land Art sculpture made in barked of stems of red alder

I was in 2001 invited to a 10 days seminar in Open -Air Art museum at Pedvale in Letland, together with 3 colleges from Roskilde and Latvian artists

The theme was Fireland so the Installations should have something with fire to do. A couple of garden blaze put inside got it to glow through the splits between the stems. A 2 m. long split in the top made like an oillamp made it possible to light it in the top without burning it down.

I was inspired by the theme,(fireland) and that fire has brought so much good to mankind, but also that it has a very dangerous component, and that the line between these are very delicate, it can serve and it can destroy, - fascinating.

Our ancestors the Vikings lived in houses where the roof in form looked a little alike my sculpture, and in the night it must have been possible to see the glow from the fire inside the house (for cooking and heating).
The other inspirational idea came from seeing pictures of the edge of the sun, where you can see the protuberance (glowing air) being sent out from the glowing sun

Seen in a distance in daytime it looks like a sun rising or sun downing
